What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer, smartphone, or other devices when you access websites.
Why Chefs Binge Uses Cookies
Only a small number of the cookies on this site are genuinely essential. Those ones keep the site working: they remember your privacy choices, keep a comment form filled in, and let pages load properly. Without them parts of the site would stop behaving as they should.
The rest are not essential, and you can refuse them. Advertising and analytics cookies pay for the site and tell me which recipes people actually use, but nothing here stops working if you turn them off.
Some of the cookies we use - particularly advertising and analytics cookies - collect information such as your IP address and a unique identifier that can be used to recognise your device. The categories below explain what we use and why.
Types of Cookies We Use
The duration for which a cookie remains on your device depends on its type. We use two types of cookies on our website:
- Session (Transient) Cookies: These cookies are erased when you close your browser. They do not collect information from your computer and typically store information in the form of a session identifier that does not personally identify the user.
- Persistent (Permanent/Stored) Cookies: These cookies are stored on your hard drive until they expire (based on a set expiration date) or are deleted by you. They are used to remember user preferences, such as web surfing behaviour or settings for a specific site.
Advertising and Analytics Cookies
We display advertising and measure how our site is used, so some third-party cookies are set by our partners. These may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, and how you interact with our pages, and are used to serve and measure personalised ads and to understand our audience. Our current partners include:
- Google Analytics and Jetpack / WordPress.com Stats - analytics cookies used to measure traffic and audience.
- Mediavine and Grow.me - our advertising partner. Their cookies are used to serve and measure personalised ads, and Mediavine’s Consent Management Platform records your consent choices.
Where required (for example for visitors in the EU, UK, and California), a consent banner is shown before advertising and analytics cookies are set, and you can change or withdraw your choices at any time. We aim to honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals.
Controlling Cookies
You may choose to restrict the use of cookies or block them entirely through your browser settings. Most browsers offer built-in tools or third-party plugins to manage cookie behaviour, including how long they are stored.
To learn more about managing and deleting cookies, visit aboutcookies.org. For more information on advertising cookies and how to manage them, visit youronlinechoices.eu (EU) or aboutads.info (US).
You can opt out of some cookies, such as Google Analytics, by visiting: Google Analytics Opt-Out.
For the advertising and analytics cookies on this site specifically, you do not need browser settings at all. Use the Manage privacy choices link at the bottom of any page to reopen the consent window and change what you have agreed to, at any time.
Note: Restricting or disabling cookies may limit the functionality of websites or prevent them from working correctly.
